Reasearch and Ideas

When thinking about designing and producing animation I feel that it is important to look at the past animators and their accomplishments. By doing this I will be able to pick up certain techniques that would allow my project for a more successful overall video. When talking about animation it is hard to ignore one of the most commonly seen pieces of work. The Disney Corporation has been built up from its cartoon studio in the 1923 to a global phenomenon that would be hard not to recognise. One of the most common images that were produced and arguably one of the most recognisable images in the world is the Mickey the Mouse animation. If I was to adapt a flash film using the Mickey Mouse image it would not be too hard for an audience to realise who it is. This is because all you would need is the oversized black ears on the top of a round face. Such as I have created below.

Although not the best of quality, essentially you can see a basic outline that it is Mickey Mouse.

One of the major breakthroughs for Disney was the release of ‘snow white and the seven dwarfs’ this is recognised as one of the key catalysts for the continuous dominance that Disney have over the competitors.

Although Disney is probably one of the most recognised animators, . A name that it is hard to ignore when talking about animations is Émile Cohl, known as one of the pioneers of animation, born in 1857 Émile was said to be an enthusiastic drawer. After having several jobs he finally settled working as a caricaturist. After working on caricatures he found a keen interest in motion pictures.
In the video Fantasmagorie Émile Cohl uses negative image’s to look as if the images have been drawn on a chalk board, this video can be seen below.

When researching ideas to create a video it is important to look closely on what I am going to produce, therefore I have looked into research with the production of Hello Kitty. Originally produced in Japan by a company by the name of Sanrio the first Hello Kitty product was produced in 1974. The first animated series of Hello Kitty was created in the 1980’s by the American Broadcasting firm DiC Entertainment; the series was called Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theatre. Again Hello Kitty was created into a animated series in 1991 which was named Hello Kitty and friends.

The image below shows the original design of Hello Kitty
